The Philadelphia Flower Show

Leave it to Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love, the cradle of our democracy, to have the world's largest and nation's oldest flower show. 2007 marks the 178th version of the Philadelphia Flower Show which kicked off its remarkable run in 1829.

This year's theme: Legends of Ireland. The exhibitors didn't need much encouragement, and a few certainly dipped into the leprechaun's pot o' gold to pull off their elaborate displays.

At about 33 acres under one roof (10 acres of exhibit space!) and over a quarter million visitors, the Philly show is the largest indoor flower show on the planet. On any given day of its March 4-11 duration, you'll find the giant building throbbing with energy, the floor packed with visitors. Over a quarter million will visit during the week long event.

A multitude of activities fill the daily schedule. Lectures, classes, demonstrations and many forms of entertainment make it a visit for all ages.

Don't forget the primary attraction: PLANTS! Besides the fabulous displays, there are dozens of competitive horticultural classes that bring the finest cultivated plants in the northeast to town for judging. Hardy and non-hardy plants of all persuasions find their way from their cozy homes in greenhouses and windowsills to the benches of the show to have their day under the bright lights.
