Spring is coming...go fly a kite?

It's nearly March...the snow is melting and the birds are starting to call JUST a little bit differently than they were a week or two ago. Spring is on the way...

A favorite springtime ritual of many is flying kites, but after reading Tuesday's New York Times.....I think I'll pass.

On the international page for the 27th, AP reports that at least 11 people died in Pakistan, not from suicide bombers, terrorist activity or general unrest, but in a 2 day kite festival in Punjab. Throats slashed by wire string used in competitive flying, people shot in "celebrations", electrocutions resulting from attempts to untangle wayward floaters, and people falling off roofs contributed to the ---all this after a temporary lifting of a ban imposed after deaths at last year's festival.

A childhood occupation? Give me another glass of wine...I'm staying in the garden.
