Dan Hinkley awarded Veitch Memorial Medal

Congratulations to friend and mentor Dan Hinkley who was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Veitch Memorial Medal for his contributions to horticulture. Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra presented the award at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show last week in the UK.

Hinkley, who we better know for his involvement with Heronswood Nursery, which he co-founded and successfully ran in a prior life, has dedicated his career to the exploration, evaluation, and introduction of garden-worthy plants from around the world. His award winning book, "The Explorer's Garden: Rare and Unusual Perennials" should be on everyone's shelves (right next to the tattered copies of his voluminous and literary catalogues).

Every serious gardener searches Hinkley's plants out, others grow them without even realizing the work that went into bringing them into cultivation--and their gardens.

Thank you Dan--and congratulations!
